Situated in the Kacyiru, Brachetto is one of Kigali’s gastronomic gems. Since it first opened doors in March 2014, it has established itself as one Kigali’s favorite restaurants for those that enjoy quality food, good wines, and an elegant setup. During the day, Brachetto’s lush and quiet environment provides a wonderful setup for lunch meetings. Comes the evening, the place becomes cozy and elegant, perfectly suited for work or casual dinners, or for a night out with a special someone.
Brachetto’s food is Mediterranean with an accent on Italian cuisine, paired with an African twist. Their wine selection is impressive, their sommelier will guide you on a tour of their best wines that they get from Europe and Africa.
We had to know what makes this place run the way it runs. To understand that, we talked to Claude Harerimana, the managing director, a husband and father of six who has been with Brachetto since day one. He explains that Brachetto had initially started as a wine import business. They then decided to build a food experience around the wines they brought to the country, and that is how Brachetto Restaurant came to life.
Claude Harerimana originally started as the salesperson selling the imported wines and as a consequence of his outstanding work, was then entrusted with managing the restaurant. He has been doing that ever since. When being asked about what drives him, he credits his success to the principles he lives by which include punctuality, taking pride in the work he does and self-actualization. His story and his values very much show what makes Brachetto such a special place.
Another example of Brachetto’s commitment to its team is the Sommelier, Jado Uwamahoro. Always with a friendly smile on his face, he makes choosing the right wine for your meal an easy exercise even for people with limited knowledge of wines. Jado Uwamahoro began his career at Brachetto as a waiter before undergoing training to be the sommelier. From the way he talks, his knowledge and his passion for wines he seems to have found the perfect job for himself. If you are a wine lover, definitely pay Jado a visit and you will have a good time.
The key person in a restaurant is of course the head chef. For Brachetto, this is Alexandre Habyerimana . He, as well, has been with Brachetto since day one. The father of three turned his passion into a job after attending culinary school in Bujumbura and has been an essential part of Brachetto’s success story since. Over the years, thousands of people have enjoyed his creations and the positive feedback that they receive from the guest encourages him and his team to continue striving for excellence.
The commitment to their team, their food and wine selection, and the focus on consistent quality are what has kept Brachetto high up in the ranks of Kigali’s best restaurants. If you are looking for a place to treat yourself, you should go ahead and enjoy a meal there.
